How Your Employer Tracks Your Stay in Saudi Arabia — And Why It Matters

Your employer can generate a report showing exactly how long you have stayed in Saudi Arabia. Here is what Absher Business shows, how it affects your iqama, and what you should do about it.

Did you know your employer can generate a digital report showing exactly how long you have been in Saudi Arabia? This is done through Absher Business (أبشر أعمال) — the employer-facing portal of the Absher platform.

A recent tweet from @AljawazatKSA confirmed: “Employers can issue a report showing the duration of their workforce’s stay in the Kingdom via the Absher Business platform.” (Source)

This has implications for every Indian expat working in Saudi Arabia.

What is Absher Business?

Absher Business is the employer version of Absher. While regular Absher is for individuals (residents), Absher Business is for companies and employers to manage their workforce.

Through Absher Business, employers can:

  • Track worker stay duration — how long each employee has been in Saudi Arabia
  • Issue iqama renewals — for their employees
  • Manage exit re-entry visas — approve or reject travel requests
  • Generate workforce reports — compliance and audit purposes
  • Update worker records — passport changes, profession updates

What the employer report shows

The Absher Business report typically includes:

  • Employee name and iqama number
  • Date of first entry into Saudi Arabia
  • Total duration of stay (in years and months)
  • Current iqama expiry date
  • Passport validity status
  • Work permit status
  • Exit re-entry history

This data is used for:

  • Iqama renewal decisions — companies decide whether to renew based on stay duration
  • Labor compliance — ensuring workers are properly sponsored
  • Audit purposes — government inspections and compliance checks
  • Contract renewals — linking stay duration to contract terms

Why this matters for Indian expats

1. Your stay duration affects iqama renewal

Under Saudi Labor Law, iqama renewal is tied to your employment contract. If your employer sees you have been in Saudi Arabia for a long time, they may:

  • Renew your iqama (if you are performing well)
  • Decline renewal (if they want to replace you)
  • Offer a transfer to a new employer

2. You cannot see the full picture

This is the key asymmetry: residents see part of the file, employers see the full picture.

Through regular Absher, you can check:

  • Iqama expiry date
  • Exit re-entry status
  • Basic personal details

But through Absher Business, your employer can see:

  • Complete stay duration history
  • All entry/exit records
  • Work permit details
  • Internal compliance flags

If there is a mismatch between what you see and what your employer sees, it could affect your renewal or transfer.

3. Stay duration affects end-of-service benefits

Your end-of-service benefits (ESB) are calculated based on your total years of service. The Absher Business report is one source employers use to verify service duration.

4. It can reveal huroob or overstay issues

If you have ever overstayed an exit re-entry visa or had a huroob flag, the Absher Business report will show it. This could affect future employment opportunities.

What you can do to protect yourself

Check your own records regularly

Log in to Absher and check:

Keep your own records

Maintain a personal record of:

  • All entry/exit dates
  • Contract start and end dates
  • Salary payments
  • Any communications with your employer about renewals

Know your rights

Under Saudi Labor Law:

  • Your employer cannot withhold your iqama or passport
  • Your employer must renew your iqama if your contract is active
  • You can transfer to a new employer if your contract ends or is terminated
  • You can file a complaint with MHRSD if your employer violates labor rules

Ask questions early

If your iqama is expiring soon and you are unsure about renewal, ask your HR department 60 days before expiry. Do not wait until the last minute.
