Exit/Re-Entry Visa Expiring? How to Check and What Happens Next
Your exit re-entry visa is about to expire and you are still abroad. Here is how to check the status, what penalties apply, and how to extend from outside Saudi Arabia.

A common query on @Absher and @CareAljawazat: “I want to check the expiry date of my exit re-entry visa.” Many expats don’t check until it is too late — and then face penalties or inability to return to Saudi Arabia.

What happens if your exit re-entry visa expires?
If you are outside Saudi Arabia and your exit re-entry visa expires:
- ❌ You cannot re-enter Saudi Arabia on that visa
- ❌ Your iqama may be cancelled after a grace period
- ❌ You may face a re-entry ban depending on circumstances
- ❌ You will need to apply for a new visa from outside
If you are inside Saudi Arabia and the visa expires:
- You are fine — the exit re-entry visa only matters when you are outside
- But you cannot leave and return on the expired visa
How to extend from abroad
If your visa is about to expire and you are still outside Saudi Arabia:
- Contact your employer/sponsor — they can extend through Absher Business
- Extension fee: SAR 200 per month
- Extension must be done BEFORE the visa expires
- No grace period — once expired, the visa is cancelled
Common mistakes
Checking too late
Many expats only check when they are at the airport trying to return. Always check at least 7 days before your planned return.
Assuming the iqama expiry = visa expiry
Your iqama expiry and exit re-entry visa expiry are different dates. A visa can expire while your iqama is still valid.
Not extending from abroad
If you are stuck abroad and your visa is expiring, your employer MUST extend it before it expires. Once expired, there is no extension option.
