Saudi Jawazat has made biometric fingerprint registration mandatory for expatriate children. Many Indian parents are unaware of this requirement — and it can block iqama renewals, exit re-entry visas, and passport services for your child.

According to the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat):

• Children aged 6 and above must have their biometric fingerprints registered with Jawazat

Why is biometric registration required?

Saudi Jawazat requires biometrics for:

• Exit/re-entry visa issuance — your child cannot leave Saudi Arabia without registered biometrics
• Iqama renewal — some services require biometric verification
• Passport services — renewals and new passport applications
• Absher access — certain Absher services require biometric verification

What documents do you need?

To register your child’s biometrics at Jawazat:

1. Child’s passport (valid)
2. Child’s iqama (if available)
3. Parent’s iqama (sponsor’s ID)
4. Parent’s passport
5. Birth certificate (recommended)
6. Family register document (if available)

Where to go?

Biometric registration must be done in person at a Jawazat office. It cannot be done through Absher or online.

Steps:

1. Visit the nearest Jawazat (Passport) office
2. Take a token for “Biometric Registration”
3. Bring all required documents
4. Child’s fingerprints and photo will be taken
5. Registration is confirmed immediately

What happens if you don’t register?

Without biometric registration:

• ❌ Cannot issue exit/re-entry visa for your child
• ❌ Cannot renew your child’s iqama through Absher
• ❌ Cannot apply for a new passport for your child
• ❌ Some Absher services will be blocked

Common mistakes Indian parents make

Mistake 1: Thinking it’s only for passport renewal

Biometric registration is needed for all passport and iqama services — not just renewal. If your child needs an exit visa for travel, biometrics must be registered first.

Mistake 2: Waiting until the last minute

If your child’s iqama is expiring and you haven’t registered biometrics, you cannot renew online. You must visit Jawazat in person, which takes time.

Mistake 3: Not registering for younger children

Even if your child is 6-9 years old, they need biometric registration. Don’t wait until they’re 10.

How to check if your child’s biometrics are registered

You can check through Absher:

1. Login to Absher
2. Go to “Family Members”
3. Check the status of each dependent
4. If biometrics are not registered, you will see a status indicating this
