Umrah Visa Multiple Entry Explained: What Indian Pilgrims Get Wrong

The Umrah e-visa for Indian pilgrims in 2026 is described as “multiple entry” — but many pilgrims misunderstand what that actually means. Some think they can enter and leave Saudi Arabia as many times as they want during the visa validity. Others confuse it with a visit visa.

Here is what the rules actually say, based on official Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) and Nusuk platform guidelines.

What “multiple entry” actually means

The 2026 Umrah e-visa has these parameters:

• Validity: Entry within 30 days of issuance (previously 90 days)
• Multiple entry: Yes — you can enter Saudi Arabia more than once during the stay period
• Maximum stay: Up to 90 days (3 months) after entry
• Entry points: Jeddah, Medina, Riyadh, Dammam

So “multiple entry” means you can fly in, leave, and fly back in — as long as:

1. Each entry is within the visa’s overall stay period
2. You are still within the 90-day stay allowance
3. You entered within 30 days of visa issuance

The 1-month entry rule (new in 2026)

This is the change that catches most Indian pilgrims off guard.

Old rule: You had 3 months to enter Saudi Arabia after visa issuance. New rule (2026): You must enter within 1 month of visa issuance.

After you arrive, you can stay for up to 3 months. But if you don’t enter within 1 month, the visa expires.

Example: Visa issued on 10 November → You must enter Saudi Arabia before 10 December → After arrival, you can stay until 10 March.

Common mistakes Indian pilgrims make

Mistake 1: Assuming “multiple entry” means unlimited trips

Some pilgrims think they can do Umrah, fly back to India, and return for a second Umrah on the same visa. While technically possible within the stay period, Saudi authorities may question repeated entries. In practice, most pilgrims use the visa for a single trip.

Mistake 2: Not booking hotel through Nusuk

Since 2026, all pilgrims must have pre-booked, electronically confirmed hotel accommodation logged in the Nusuk system before the visa can be issued. Even if you are staying with family in Saudi Arabia, you still need a confirmed hotel booking to get the visa.

Mistake 3: Entering after the 1-month window

If your visa was issued on 15 June and you try to enter on 20 July (35 days later), you will be denied entry — even though the visa is “valid” for 90 days. The 1-month entry window is strict.

Mistake 4: Confusing Umrah visa with tourist visa

Since 2024, the standard Saudi tourist e-visa also permits Umrah. But the rules are different:

• Tourist visa: 1-year validity, 90-day stay, but cannot be used during Hajj season (Dhul Hijjah)
• Umrah visa: 90-day validity, 30-day stay, specifically for pilgrimage

If you plan to perform Umrah during Hajj season, you need an Umrah visa — a tourist visa will not work.

The Nusuk app is mandatory

All pilgrims — regardless of visa type — must use the Nusuk app for:

• Hotel booking confirmation
• Transportation booking
• Umrah permit
• Rawdah visit permit (for Masjid an-Nabawi)

You cannot perform Umrah without Nusuk registration, even if you have a valid visa.

Mehram rules for women

Since 2024, women over 18 may travel without a mehram (male guardian) for Umrah — but only as part of an organized group through a registered Umrah operator. Solo female travel without mehram is not permitted.
