Planning a weekend trip to Bahrain from Saudi Arabia? The King Fahd Causeway can have long vehicle insurance queues, especially on weekends and holidays. A new Absher Travel service lets you skip these queues entirely — and it now also covers the Salwa crossing to Qatar.

Aug 2026 update: Jawazat confirmed that Absher Travel (أبشر سفر) now completes travel procedures electronically at both King Fahd Causeway AND Salwa crossing (Saudi–Qatar land border). This extends the skip-the-queues benefit to Riyadh/Dammam expats driving to Qatar. (Source: @AljawazatKSA)

What is Absher Travel?

Absher Travel (أبشر سفر) is a digital service from Saudi Jawazat that streamlines border crossing procedures. One of its key features is the ability to handle vehicle insurance checks electronically — before you even reach the causeway.

How it works

Before your trip

  1. Register your vehicle on Absher Travel
  2. Link your vehicle insurance details to your Absher account
  3. Verify your exit re-entry visa is valid
  4. Check your iqama status — must be valid

At the causeway

Instead of waiting in the physical vehicle insurance checkpoint:

  • Your vehicle details are pre-verified digitally
  • You pass through the automated gate without stopping
  • No need to present physical insurance documents

Tips for Indian expats

  • Check before you go: Don’t wait until you’re at the causeway. Register on Absher Travel at least a day before.
  • Insurance must be current: If your insurance expired, you cannot use the automated lane.
  • Weekend traffic: Friday and Saturday are the busiest days. Even with Absher Travel, expect some delays.
  • Carry documents: Even with digital verification, carry your iqama, passport, and vehicle registration as backup.

Bahrain visa for Indian iqama holders

If you are an Indian iqama holder planning to visit Bahrain, you still need a visa. See our guide: Bahrain Visit Visa — What Indian Iqama Holders Need to Know
