The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque has introduced a convenient and thoughtful service for elderly pilgrims and those with special needs. Smart golf carts are now available on the roof of the Grand Mosque in Makkah to assist with the ritual of Tawaf (circumambulation around the Kaaba).
Accessibility and Timings
Designated pilgrims can access the golf cart station through the following entrances:
- Ajyad Escalators
- King Abdulaziz Gate Elevators
- Umrah Gate Elevators
The golf carts operate daily from 4:00 PM to 4:00 AM, providing ample time for pilgrims to perform Tawaf comfortably.
Service and Cost
The golf cart service is exclusively offered for Tawaf, ensuring a seamless experience for those who may face mobility challenges. The cost of the service is SR25 per person, inclusive of VAT.
Fleet and Capacity
To cater to the large influx of pilgrims, especially during the month of Ramadan, the authority has deployed a fleet of 50 golf carts. Each cart can accommodate up to 10 passengers, ensuring that groups can enjoy the experience together.
Ticket Purchase
Pilgrims can conveniently purchase tickets from the designated points of sale located on the rooftop of the Grand Mosque, ensuring a smooth and organized process.
Ongoing Efforts
The idea of utilizing smart golf carts for this purpose was conceived in 2014, following the directive of the late King Abdullah. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia continues to prioritize and implement innovative solutions to enhance the experiences of pilgrims from around the world, ensuring that the journey to the cities of Makkah and Madina remains accessible and inclusive for all.
