Saudi Arabia Concludes Hajj 2026 with 1.7 Million Pilgrims
Hajj 2026 concluded successfully with 1.7 million pilgrims from around the world. Saudi authorities implemented advanced crowd management, smart ID systems, and climate-controlled facilities for a smooth pilgrimage experience.

Saudi Arabia successfully concluded Hajj 2026 with approximately 1.7 million pilgrims from inside and outside the Kingdom, marking another milestone in the post-pandemic recovery of the annual pilgrimage.
Smooth Operations Throughout
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah reported that this year’s Hajj saw seamless operations across all holy sites — Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah, and the Grand Mosque in Makkah. Advanced crowd management systems, smart ID bracelets, and real-time tracking ensured pilgrim safety and comfort throughout the 5-day ritual.
Smart Technologies Deployed
For the first time, all pilgrims were issued NFC-enabled smart bracelets linked to their visa and medical records. These bracelets allowed authorities to:
- Track pilgrim movement in real time
- Provide instant medical assistance when needed
- Prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas
- Offer multilingual guidance via the Nusuk app
Climate Control Measures
With temperatures reaching up to 45°C, Saudi authorities deployed extensive climate control measures including:
- Misting fans and air-conditioned tents in Mina and Arafat
- Cooled pathways connecting key ritual sites
- Free chilled water stations at regular intervals
- Climate-controlled buses for transport between holy sites
Health and Safety
The Ministry of Health reported zero major outbreaks, thanks to mandatory vaccination requirements and on-site medical facilities. Over 30,000 healthcare workers were stationed across holy sites, operating 180 hospitals and health centers.
Indian Pilgrims
Around 175,000 Indian pilgrims performed Hajj this year, making India one of the largest contingents. The Indian Hajj Mission operated dedicated help desks, medical facilities, and guidance services for Indian pilgrims in Makkah and Madinah.
Looking Ahead
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has already begun preparations for Hajj 2027, with plans to expand capacity further and enhance the digital experience for pilgrims worldwide.
