GAMCA (GCC Approved Medical Centers Association) has officially rebranded to Wafid. If you’re planning to travel to Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, or Bahrain on a work or family residency visa, passing this medical examination is mandatory. The Wafid online portal is now the central hub for booking appointments and checking your wafid medical status.

This comprehensive guide covers everything you need to know about the Wafid medical system in 2025, including current fees, how to check your status, what causes unfit results, retest policies, and essential preparation tips.

📌 What is Wafid Medical Test?

Wafid (formerly GAMCA) is a mandatory medical screening program managed by the Gulf Health Council for expatriates seeking work or residency visas in GCC countries. This preventative measure helps GCC nations maintain public health standards by screening for infectious diseases and ensuring workforce productivity.

Key Facts:

  • Mandatory for nationals from countries including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and 20+ other nations
  • Minimum age requirement: Typically 22 years for work visas
  • Children under 12 are generally exempt for family visas; those 12+ may need testing depending on the destination country
  • Official rebranding from GAMCA to Wafid effective January 15, 2023

💰 Wafid Appointment System & Fees

Wafid has streamlined its booking process with a fully digital system. Understanding the fee structure is crucial for proper budgeting.

Registration/Booking Fee (Paid Online)

  • Base Fee: USD $10
  • Total Cost: Approximately ₹1,160-1,500 INR (includes gateway charges, taxes, and service fees)
  • Payment Method: Credit/debit card via official Wafid portal
  • What It Covers: Booking confirmation and medical center assignment

Medical Center Fees (Paid in Cash at Center)

These fees are paid directly at the assigned medical center on your appointment day:

CountryApproximate Cost
India₹7,500 – ₹8,500 INR
PakistanPKR 24,000 – PKR 30,000
BangladeshBDT 8,500 – BDT 9,000
All GCC DestinationsSAR 300-425 equivalent

What’s Included: Physical examination, chest X-ray, blood tests (HIV, Hepatitis B/C, syphilis, malaria), urine tests, and eye/dental checks.

⚠️ Important Note: There is NO “Premium” or “Standard” appointment tier in 2025. The Wafid system automatically assigns medical centers based on your selected city and availability. You cannot choose a specific center or doctor.

📋 How To Check Your Wafid Medical Status Online

Results typically appear within 2-4 working days after your medical examination. Follow these steps to check your status:

Step 1: Visit the Official Wafid Portal

Go to: https://wafid.com/medical-status-search/

Step 2: Choose Your Search Method

You have two options to search for your results:

  • Option A: By Passport Number
    • Select your nationality from the dropdown menu
    • Enter your passport number exactly as it appears in your passport
    • Complete the CAPTCHA verification
  • Option B: By Wafid Slip Number
    • Enter the registration/slip number from your booking confirmation
    • Complete the CAPTCHA verification

Step 3: View Your Result

Click “Check” or “Generate” to view your medical status. You’ll see one of the following statuses:

✅ STATUS: FIT

Congratulations! You’ve passed the medical examination and are cleared for your visa.

  • Report Validity: 60 days from the date of issuance (some sources indicate up to 90 days, but 60 days is most commonly enforced)
  • Next Steps: Download and print your FIT certificate immediately. Submit it to your employer or embassy for visa processing within the validity period.
  • Important: If you miss the validity window, you’ll need to retake the entire medical examination.

❌ STATUS: UNFIT

A health issue was detected that doesn’t meet GCC health standards. See the detailed section below on unfit causes and retest policies.

⏳ Other Statuses
  • PENDING/IN PROGRESS: Results are being processed. Check again in 24-48 hours.
  • NEW: Medical center hasn’t updated the status yet. Contact the center directly.
  • UNDER REVIEW: Results are being evaluated by medical authorities.
  • NO RECORD FOUND: Your appointment may be cancelled, expired, or data entered incorrectly.

🚫 Common Reasons for “UNFIT” Status

Being declared unfit means you don’t meet GCC health requirements. Here are the most common causes based on Gulf Health Council guidelines:

Infectious Diseases

  • HIV reactive/AIDS
  • Hepatitis B Surface Antigen positive (HBsAg reactive)
  • Hepatitis C Antibody positive (HCV reactive)
  • Tuberculosis (TB) – active or past evidence
  • Leprosy
  • Syphilis (VDRL/TPHA reactive)
  • Microfilaria positive
  • Malaria positive

Chest X-Ray Abnormalities (Most Common Rejection Reason)

  • Pulmonary scars (even from old, healed TB)
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Pulmonary calcification
  • Pleural effusion
  • Pleural thickening
  • Lymphadenopathy

💡 Pro Tip: If you have a history of respiratory issues, get a pre-test X-ray at the same medical center before your official Wafid test to identify potential problems early.

Non-Infectious Medical Conditions

  • Anemia/Low hemoglobin
  • Uncontrolled Diabetes mellitus
  • Chronic renal/kidney failure
  • Liver failure or hepatic insufficiency
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Uncontrolled hypertension
  • Any form of cancer
  • Psychiatric diseases
  • Neurological disorders
  • Severe physical disabilities

Pregnancy (For Work Visas)

If you’re applying for a work visa and are found to be pregnant, you will be declared UNFIT. This typically does not apply to family residency visas, but always confirm with your specific embassy or consulate.

Other Reasons

  • Low vision (below required standards)
  • Color blindness (for certain job categories)
  • Incomplete vaccination records (when required)

⏳ Wafid Retest Policy for Unfit Candidates

If you receive an UNFIT status, Wafid enforces a mandatory waiting period before you can rebook:

Standard Retest Ban Period

  • Waiting Period: 2-3 months from the initial test date (most commonly cited timeframe for 2025)
  • Purpose: Allows time for medical treatment and recovery
  • During This Period: Consult with a doctor, address the detected health issue, and obtain medical documentation showing improvement
  • After Ban Expires: You can rebook through the official Wafid portal

Extended or Permanent Bans

  • Serious Infectious Diseases: HIV/AIDS, chronic Hepatitis B/C may result in a permanent ban for GCC work visas
  • Severe Conditions: Some medical issues may require 6 months or medical clearance before retesting
  • Appeals: Possible for borderline or false positive cases—contact your medical center, but success is rare

⚠️ CRITICAL WARNING: Do NOT attempt to:

  • Forge or tamper with medical reports
  • Change passport details to bypass the system
  • Book with a different passport number or nationality
  • Use fake agencies or unauthorized services

The Wafid system is centrally linked across all GCC countries. Fraudulent attempts will result in permanent blacklisting, hefty fines, visa denials across ALL GCC countries, and potential legal action.

📝 Documents Required for Wafid Medical Test

Bring the following documents to your assigned medical center:

Essential Documents (All Applicants)

  • Printed Wafid Appointment Slip (with reference/slip number)
  • Original Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
  • Photocopy of Passport (1-2 copies of bio-data page)
  • Passport-size Photos (4-8 photos with white or blue background depending on destination country)

Additional Documents (Destination-Specific)

  • For Kuwait: Entry visa or reference document
  • For All Countries: Employer letter (if applicable), vaccination certificates (if required), National ID/CNIC (if applicable in your country)

💡 Pro Tip: Always verify the exact document requirements with your assigned medical center before your appointment, as requirements can vary by destination country and visa type.

  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water for 2-3 days before the test
  • Avoid Fatty Foods: Don’t eat heavy, greasy meals 24-48 hours before
  • Fast Before Test: Most centers require 8-12 hours fasting for blood tests
  • Get Proper Rest: Sleep well the night before
  • Avoid Heavy Exercise: No strenuous physical activity 48 hours before
  • Update Vaccinations: Get Hepatitis, COVID-19, or other required vaccines
  • Manage Chronic Conditions: If you have diabetes or hypertension, ensure it’s well-controlled

  • Arrive Early: Reach the medical center before 11:30 AM for best service
