How to Get a Birth Certificate in Saudi

Procedure to Apply for Newborn Baby Certificate in Saudi Arabia

Congratulations on the birth of your newborn baby. You have just welcomed your little-one to your beautiful family. While you enjoy playing with your newborn on one side, it is important on the other side that you quickly start focusing on the documentation works related to your Baby. The first and most important of them is to Obtain a Birth Certificate for your baby. We have listed down Step by Step Procedure to obtain a Birth Certificate for a Newborn baby in Saudi Arabia.


1. Obtain Birth Notification Letter from Hospital

As soon as the baby is delivered, you will be asked to provide the following basic details to the Hospital Medical Records Section. These may include:

  • Given Name: (Provide Given Name of the Baby. This can be single or multiple words. But DO NOT Include Surname)
  • Father Name: (Provide Full Name of the Father)
  • Present Address: (Provide your Current Address)
  • Phone Number: (Provide your Phone Number)
  • Email ID: (Provide Your Email ID)

Around 3 working days after the receipt of the above details and upon getting the Hospital discharge confirmation, The Hospital Medical Records Section will Issue the “Birth Notification Letter from Hospital”.


2. Online Appointment to Ahwal Al Madani

First and foremost, You must obtain an online Appointment for the Ahwal Al Madani Office that is nearest to your current address.

  • Check Ahwal Al Madani Offices nearest to you
  • Visit Absher on your browser
  • Under the Appointments Section, Choose “Ministry of Civil Affairs”
  • Fill in the required details and Click on Verify My Details
  • Once done, Click “Proceed to Service”
  • Book A New Appointment
  • Select the Service “Record Birth Event” and Select Your Region and Branch
  • Select the Appointment Time as per availability and Confirm your Appointment. Once done, Take a Print Out of the Appointment. (Digital Copy also just works fine)

3. Visit to Ahwal Al Madani for Provisional Birth Certificate

The “Birth Notification Letter” that you obtained from the Hospital along with the following documents needs to be submitted at the Ahwal Al Madani (Ministry of Civil Affairs) Office in your locality.

Required Documents:

  1. Birth Notification Letter from Hospital
  2. Iqamah of the Father
  3. Iqamah of the Mother
  4. Passport of the Father
  5. Passport of the Mother
  6. Marriage Certificate (Translated to Arabic from Certified Translation office)
  7. Filled Form 87 for Birth Certificate (Comment below if you need a guide on how to fill this form)
  8. In Case if the Mother is on Visit Visa, Saudi Visa Stamped on Passport, Absher Page Showing the Visa Expiry Date
  9. In Case if the Wife is not dependent upon the Husband, Marriage Certificate Attested by Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Saudi Arabia

The Ahwal Al Madani Offices are usually not crowded but make sure to **Reach the Office early** (Atleast 10 Minutes before your appointment) so you can get your work done faster. Carry All your documents along with the Appointment to the reception for Initial Checks.

Once the Initial documents verification is complete, you will be given a token and you need to wait for your turn.

Once it is your turn, Go Ahead and submit the documents to the respective counter.

After Submitting, You will be asked to wait (About 20-30Mins) until he completes the Birth Certificate Printing.

Finally, You will be called to collect the Printed Provisional Birth Certificate from Ahwal Al Madani.


4. Visit to MOFA for Birth Certificate Attestation

The Birth Certificate needs to be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA). In order to do so, You need to book an online appointment with MOFA and pay the Birth Certificate Attestation fee.

Carry the following documents before you visit to MOFA office:

  • Provisional Birth certificate that you obtained from Ahwal Al Madani
  • Online Appointment to MOFA showing the Attestation payment status

MOFA is also usually not crowded and therefore you have the flexibility in terms of Schedule. You might be asked to leave your phone and other electronic gadgets before entering MOFA so be prepared for that. Enter MOFA and complete the attestation process.


5. Translating Birth Certificate into English

The Next step is to translate the Provisional Birth Certificate by a certified translator. Search for a Certified translator around you and visit them with the Original Provisional Birth Certificate along with a Photocopy of the same. They will charge you around SAR 20 – SAR 30.


6. Apply for Passport and Birth Certificate from Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia

Once you have completed obtaining MOFA Attested Provisional birth certificate and English Translation, You are ready to Apply for the Passport of your newborn.
